Whole-Child. Play-Based. Child-Led. Rooted in Community.

At Santa Clara Parents Nursery School, we believe early childhood is a time for curiosity, connection, and joyful discovery. Our cooperative, play-based program nurtures the whole child — socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively — while honoring each child’s natural pace of development.

Children learn best when they feel safe, capable, and engaged. Through meaningful play, supportive relationships, and a strong parent-school partnership, we help children build the foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.

Play-Based, Child-Led Learning

Play is the most important work of early childhood. In our classrooms, children explore, create, build, imagine, question, and discover through hands-on experiences designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding.

Because children are naturally motivated to learn, our teachers thoughtfully guide rather than direct. We observe children closely, follow their interests, and create opportunities that support:

  • Problem solving and critical thinking

  • Language and communication

  • Creativity and imagination

  • Early math and science concepts

  • Independence and confidence

Child-led learning does not mean unstructured — it means intentional, responsive teaching that meets children where they are and helps them grow.

Whole-Child Development

We focus on nurturing the whole child, recognizing that academic readiness grows from strong social, emotional, and physical foundations.

Our program supports:

  • Emotional awareness and self-regulation

  • Social confidence and relationship building

  • Physical development and coordination

  • Curiosity, persistence, and love of learning

  • Independence and decision-making

When children feel secure and capable, they are ready to explore, learn, and thrive.

Social-Emotional Growth

A central part of our approach is helping children develop the social and emotional skills that support lifelong success.

In a supportive, community-based classroom, children learn to:

  • Express feelings in healthy ways

  • Build friendships and cooperate with peers

  • Navigate conflict and practice problem-solving

  • Develop empathy and respect for others

  • Gain confidence and resilience

  • Practice independence within a safe structure

Teachers gently guide children through real-life social situations, helping them build emotional tools they will carry into elementary school and beyond.

The Cooperative Model: Parents as Partners

As a cooperative preschool, families are active participants in their child’s early learning experience. Parents work alongside teachers in the classroom, attend parent education, and build meaningful connections within the school community.

This model creates:

  • A strong sense of belonging for children and families

  • Deeper understanding of child development

  • A supportive parenting community

  • A rich, collaborative learning environment

Children benefit from seeing the important adults in their lives working together to support their growth.
