Why a Co-op at SCPNS?

You want a preschool where your child learns through play—and you feel truly part of the village. But many options only invite you to drop off — then drop out.

At SCPNS, it’s different. We’re a parent-participation preschool because we believe children learn best when families learn too.

Being part of our co-op doesn’t just help run the school—it helps you:

  • Feel connected — you’re more than a parent volunteer and doing tasks; you’re a core part of community.

  • See your child grow — firsthand—through their confidence, independence, and creativity.

  • Learn alongside your child — with teachers as guides, not lecturers.

  • Strengthen family bonds — within your home and across our school.

From working in the classroom to contributing to community events, the co-op model makes SCPNS a place where everyone—kids and grownups—learn, belong, and thrive.

  • What if I work full-time or can’t be in the classroom?
We get it — every family is different. Through our Flex Co-op option (available in limited spots), you can enroll without a weekly classroom shift. Tuition is slightly higher to support staffing, and some families also arrange for a partner, grandparent, or nanny to take their place on work days. We’re happy to talk through what might work best for your situation.

Not at all! Our teachers provide training and guidance.
  • What ages do you serve?
We welcome children ages 2–5 in our core school-year programs, and 18 months–6 years for summer and Saturday offerings.
  • What is a cooperative preschool?
A co-op preschool is run by families and teachers working together. Parents help in the classroom, hold school jobs, and support day-to-day operations — creating a hands-on, connected learning experience for everyone.
