Job Title: Part-Time Teacher Teacher
Reports To: SCPNS Director

School Overview:
Established in 1956, Santa Clara Parents Nursery School (SCPNS) is one of Santa Clara’s oldest cooperative nursery schools. With a proud commitment to developmentally appropriate learning, SCPNS offers an engaging, play-based program for children ages 2 to 5. As a nonprofit, parent-participation preschool, SCPNS is dedicated to building strong family partnerships and a supportive learning community.

 

Job Summary:

SCPNS is seeking a highly energetic and qualified Teacher to join our team part-time. This position includes regular weekly classroom teaching responsibilities during the school year, with opportunities for summer hours based on program needs and enrollment. Additional hours for preparation, required meetings, and school events are outlined in the employee's annual schedule and compensated accordingly.

Teachers may occasionally work in a Teacher’s Aide capacity. Any regularly scheduled TA hours will be paid at the aide rate. Substituting in a TA role may be paid at the teacher rate only with prior approval from the Director and as allowed by the program budget.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • AA degree (or 60 units) including 24 Early Childhood Education (ECE)/Child Development (CD) units with core courses

  • Understanding of and commitment to a play-based, developmental preschool philosophy

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with staff and parents

  • Current CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification

  • Must pass a physical exam, TB test, background check (Live Scan), and meet immunization requirements

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages 2–5

  • Supervise and support parent volunteers in the classroom

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment

  • Maintain compliance with licensing and school policies

  • Communicate with families regarding school policies, child development, classroom happenings, and parent participation expectations

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service days, and required school events (as specified in the annual staff schedule)

  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and evening parent education events as assigned

  • Serve as a role model and leader in fostering a warm, cooperative school culture

  • Actively promote SCPNS’s mission, philosophy, and programs in the wider community

 

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to actively engage with children at their level, including kneeling, squatting, sitting on the floor, and moving quickly to support children in play and transitions. The Teacher’s Aide must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and maintain visual supervision of children at all times.

Hourly: $20-$25

Job Summary:
SCPNS is seeking a caring and energetic Teacher’s Aide to support our preschool classrooms during scheduled school hours. Aides work alongside the classroom Teacher to assist with daily routines, transitions, and meaningful play. This is an hourly, non-exempt, part-time position. Specific hours are determined annually based on enrollment and program needs. Participation in staff meetings and in-service training is also required and paid.

If you meet the qualifications outlined in Title 22 of the California Community Care Licensing Division, you may also be eligible to substitute as a Teacher on an as-needed basis. Substitute teaching assignments will be compensated at the teacher rate only with prior approval by the SCPNS Director and as allowed by the program budget.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma

  • 6 ECE/CD units required (or in progress); additional coursework preferred

  • Valid CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)

  • Prior experience working with children in a preschool or child care setting preferred

  • Must pass a physical exam, TB test, background check (Live Scan), and meet immunization requirements

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the classroom Teacher with daily routines, transitions, and supervision of children

  • Set up and clean up classroom activities as assigned

  • Support children’s play and learning with curiosity, respectful engagement, and open-ended materials

  • Model pro-social behaviors and self-help skills

  • Assist with toileting and diaper changes in accordance with licensing and health regulations

  • Maintain a warm, professional, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Attend and participate in required staff meetings and in-service training days (as outlined in the annual staff schedule)

  • Communicate and collaborate respectfully with teachers, children, and families

 

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to actively engage with children at their level, including kneeling, squatting, sitting on the floor, and moving quickly to support children in play and transitions. The Teacher’s Aide must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and maintain visual supervision of children at all times.

 

Compensation:

  • Hourly wage based on qualifications and experience in accordance with the SCPNS compensation policy and pay scale

  • Paid sick leave, personal days, and health stipend available during the school year (as detailed in the offer letter, Compensation Policy,  and Employee Handbook)

  • Paid holidays and additional paid hours as outlined in the Employee Handbook
